Abstract

This article seeks to explore Balinese harmony, ethics, and human aesthetics which are represented by stories of “Cupak and Gerantang.” Theoretically this article has an urgency in the development of science about literary discourse. Practically provides an understanding of Balinese harmony, ethics and aesthetics. Through a comprehensive analysis process, knowledge of ethnoideology of Balinese ethnics such as “manusa pada ((equality teachings), asah asih asuh (teachings of love), and menyama braya (teachings about brotherhood) in the story of “Cupak and Gerantang” is a guideline of Balinese society in creating harmony. Tabak and Gerantang also contain the dualistic concept or Rwa Bhineda contained in the teachings of Hinduism. This concept teaches Balinese people to achieve harmony and balance in order to achieve peace of mind. The story of “Cupak and Gerantang” reflects subha and asubha karma teachings, which are about good deeds and bad deeds that always appear side by side in human life.
