Abstract

Kakawin literature is a classic literary work that is religious in nature, namely literature as a means of worshiping the Highest Substance. Kakawin generally contains stories of glory which contain religious functions, develops into a long story full of religious philosophy, adorned with stories of war, rival wars and others that lead to ultimate truth, namely true dharma. Old Java as the basic language of kakawin literature is one of the oldest documentary languages that has the richest material and beautiful and noble national cultural values. Religious character education is seen in every area of kakawin. A Kawi's creative process is an implementation of yoga with kakawin as his yantra. Beautiful words and chants can receive the idolatry of the idol deity (istadewata) and at the same time are the object of concentration for the sang kawi, the reader, and the kakawin literary listener kakawin literature, so that they are called temples, scriptures or temples of language.
