Abstract

Guidance teacher and counseling or counselor as aprofessional educatoris a bachelor (S-1) in education of guidance and counseling department and has completed the teacher professional education program guidance and counseling or counselor (PPG LB/K), which provides expert guidance and counseling services, while individuals whore ceiveguidance and counseling services are called counselee.The existence of guidance teacher and counseling or counselor in the national education system is expressed as one of educational qualifications, in line with the qualifications of teachers, lecturers, learning-educators, tutors, lecturers, facilitators and instructors (Law no. 2 20/2003, Article 1, paragraph 6). It is believed that the principal’s support in the implementation and management guidance and counseling program in schools is essential. The relationship between the principle and counselor is very important especially in determining the effectiveness of the program. Principals who understand well the guidance and counseling profession will: (1) giving credence to counselors and maintaining regular communication in various forms, (2) understanding and formalizing the role of the counselor, and (3) placing the staffs of the school as a team or partners.
