Abstract
Abstract The study is focused on topic structure and focus. This study is based on a thought that discourse is not merely the widest grammatical unit. However, it is also information characterized with a cohesion and coherence. In this study, topic is stated as old information while focus is the new one. The arranging of the old and new information is one of discourse whole unit. Based on data it was known that syntactic function that can be focused is subject, predicate, and object. Topic mostly appeared in the comment part. Strategy used to expose focus is fronting, intonation, ellipsis, substitution, and posesive marker –nya}.
