Abstract

This study aims to understand the problems that character experienced by the hegemony of patriarchy in Balinese culture on novels of Oka Rusmini and see the from of women’s resistance to patriarchal hegemony in Balinese culture on novels Oka Rusmini. In addition, this research has a purpose that indirectly able to see the narrative construction of novel Oka Rusmini and how far implication on the author’s attitude in addressing the cultural phenomenon. In this area literally will be able to trace the cultural attitude done Oka Rusmini in the framework of creating understanding to the community in addressing the problem of patriarchy hegemony in socio-cultural life the people of Bali. Contribution which can be donated in this research is classified into two that is theoretically and practically. If theoretically this research has a contribution in the development of science, especially knowledge about the discourse of feminism in literature, while practically also able to provide enlightenment to educators and youth to actively and massively study the literature. This research uses descriptive qualitative research design that moved from the functional approach the novels by Oka Rusmini. In this case, the primary data source in the study comes Tarian Bumi, Kenanga, and Tempurung. The mthod of colleting data used is literature study. The method of study is used to collect primary data derived from Oka Rusmini’s novel. Step analysis of this data is done by using descriptive qualitative. This method is done by using operational steps, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The three stages interact and have connetions, beginning with data colletion and ending in drawing conclusions. The female characters in the three novels Oka Rusmini were never respected by male characters. While fenale figures are required to respect men and obey the wishes of male characters. Women are always positioned as subordinate, it happens when the life of female characters is dominated by male characters. The dominance perpetraded by men against Balinese women, gave rise to resistance movements.
